THE Port Adelaide Football Club is looking to contribute to a more active and healthy northern community with the announcement that it has formed a partnership with the City of Salisbury.

The Power and City of Salisbury will officially launch their partnership at the Power’s first ever Northern Family Day today, Wednesday 7 May, a day which will see the team train at Salisbury Oval, Brown Terrace, Salisbury from 3pm.

With nearly 30 per cent of the Power supporter base from the northern suburbs, and a desire by the club to better engage and contribute to that community, the Power were keen to find a way to integrate into the community.

Power Chief Executive, John James explains how the partnership with the City of Salisbury came about.

“We were very keen to engage and excite the northern community and indeed to do so in a meaningful way,” he said.

“The City of Salisbury shares our brand values, they are innovative, proactive and community-minded. The City of Salisbury’s vision for open space and recreation provision contained within ‘The Game Plan’ identified similar goals to ours, in particular, the desire to have a more active and healthy community.

“We are thrilled with how the partnership has worked to date and hope that it brings about the desired results.”

City of Salisbury Mayor, Gillian Aldridge, says the partnership will help to encourage more youth to participate in a healthier lifestyle.

“The profile of the club and team will assist the City of Salisbury in meeting many of its goals as we endeavour to encourage more young people to lead a more fit and healthy lifestyle.

“I’m sure there are also many talented young footballers in the making and this will provide an ideal opportunity for them to understand that they can follow their dreams as they see players from the north in the line-up for Port Adelaide.”

There are a number of activities resulting from the partnership, including the following programs;

  • The Power Community Youth Program – a program which, through the use of elite athletes, educates youth on healthy lifestyle issues
  • The Power Clubs Program – a program which sees Power players involved in visits to both football and netball clubs
  • A focus of the Power’s charity program in the City of Salisbury area

    The Power’s Northern Family Day will be held today, Wednesday, 7 May, from 3.00pm at Salisbury Oval.

    Alongside the launch of the partnership, the team will take part in their training session and will be available to sign autographs, along with Adelaide Thunderbird players. There will be giveaways, the Power Funk Squad dancers, an opportunity to meet Thunda Power as well as a Planet Teal Zone for children and an SGIC Super Clinic.
