Day 5

Wednesday 9 December
Efogi to Brown River, 18km

It was an emotional start to the day for the travel party as they paid their respects at a Brigade Hill memorial service, one of the most significant battle sites along the Track.

The steep, but breathtaking ascent to Brigade Hill was followed by a long descent to Menari Village. Here the group visited the site where the brave 39th Battalion, known as the Ragged Bloody Heroes, paraded before they were withdrawn from the fight on the eve of the battle at Brigade Hill.

Today was a big day for the players covering almost 20km in increasing heat.

The group arrived at the their camp site at Brown River at around 5pm.
