THE SYDNEY Swans deny they are interested in North Melbourne forward Mason Wood.

The denial comes after AFL.com.au's Damian Barrett reported on Wednesday night the Swans were keen on the 22-year-old, who is out-of-contract at season's end.

Swans football manager Tom Harley told Fox Sports on Thursday the club had made contact with the Kangaroos to refute the claim.

"It was news to us when we read that," Harley said.

"We've been in touch with North Melbourne to refute that. We haven't made any contact.

"I can unequivocally deny that report. We've made no contact with North Melbourne, other than to say we're not interested and we've made no contact with his management group."

If the Swans were to go after Wood, they would most likely require a trade. Alternatively, Wood could nominate for the NAB AFL Draft and put a price on his head to dissuade other clubs from selecting him.

Wood had surgery on his left knee and will miss six-to-eight weeks with a medial ligament injury.
