GOLD Coast will consider employing a director of coaching to fast-track the development of Stuart Dew.

Suns CEO Mark Evans said on Wednesday Dew had displayed some "great traits" in his first two years and the club wanted to continue his improvement.

"We are invested in what is the next phase of growth for Stuart and his team of coaches," Evans said. 

"Some clubs have found some benefit in having a director of coaching or mentor program or leadership program.

"We would consider anything we thought could speed up that development."

Gold Coast is pleased with Dew's progress, with News Corp reporting recently that Evans had been instructed by his board to begin negotiations for a contract extension for the coach, despite having 12 months to run.

"(There's) No timeframe on that," Evans said.

"What we did say is Stuart has shown us he's got some great traits we think will stand him in good stead to be a senior coach for a very long period of time and to deliver success, and we want that to be at the Gold Coast Suns. 

"He's got a great way of connecting to players, he's got a great football brain and he's so eager to learn and we think that's more important than X's and O's in the first instance.

"In terms of those conversations, we'll get to that in our own time."

Gold Coast has won seven of 43 games since Dew took over from Rodney Eade and is currently on a 17-game losing streak.

A majority of its 23-and-under players, including vice-captain Touk Miller, Jack Bowes, Ben Ainsworth, Brayden Fiorini and No.3 draft pick Izak Rankine, have committed with long-term contracts.
