For the first time under coach Alastair Clarkson, Hawthorn has registered a win over Sydney.

The Hawks join the Western Bulldogs and Geelong as the only other teams in 2008 to accumulate 100+ points against Paul Roos’ team.

In one of his finest matches for the club, Xavier Ellis displayed immense courage and trademark class while going head to head with Adam Goodes.

While Goodes amassed plenty of the ball, Ellis’ ability to stifle his run and carry was a major factor in the 31-point victory to the brown and gold.

With a little help from mates, Hodge and Franklin, Goodes was worn down and given no chance of inspiring a Sydney comeback.
