JONATHAN Giles has re-signed with Greater Western Sydney, penning a deal for the next three seasons.

Winning Giles' signature is a significant boon for GWS, given the 24-year-old's outstanding form in the club's debut AFL season when he shouldered most of its ruck load over his 20 games.

Just last week, Giles' future at the club had appeared uncertain.

GWS football manager Graeme Allan said Giles' signature was a sign the Giants are heading in the right direction.

"Jonathan had an excellent debut year and we are very happy that he along with a number of other players have made a long term commitment to the Giants," Allan told gwsgiants.com.au.

Giles was thrilled to have his future settled.

"After waiting a long time to get an opportunity to play AFL football, I really enjoyed my first year at the Giants. There's no doubt there's a lot of terrific young talent at the club and it has a really exciting future," Giles said.

Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni conceded the club's negotiations with their No.1 ruckman had reached a stalemate, while Adelaide was reportedly making a concerted play to attract the former Central District player back home to help cover Kurt Tippett's departure.

Giles' re-signing follows the Giants' highly productive Gillette AFL Trade Period.

In trading the rights to 17-year-olds Jack Martin (Gold Coast) and Jesse Hogan (Melbourne) in this year's mini-draft, the Giants ensured they would have the first three picks in this year's NAB AFL Draft, acquiring pick No.2 from the Suns and No.3 - and 13 - from the Demons.

GWS also secured an additional first-round pick, 12, from St Kilda in exchange for pre-listed player Tom Lee (Claremont).

Giles was taken by the Giants with pick No.3 in last year's Rookie Draft, having previously spent four years on Port Adelaide's list without playing a game.

His Giants ruck partner and former Port teammate Dean Brogan, who turns 34 in December, is still considering whether to play on in 2013.
