ADELAIDE forward Jason Porplyzia has been subbed off in the opening 10 minutes of the club's round-one clash with Hawthorn at AAMI Stadium, after injuring his troublesome shoulder in a tackle.

Porplyzia kicked the first goal of the game to give the Crows a dream start, but came from the ground clutching his arm minutes later and disappeared straight down into the rooms.

The classy goalkicker emerged midway through the term with his shoulder heavily iced and wearing the substitute vest.

He was replaced by debutant Brodie Smith.

The injury is a big blow for Porplyzia, who had completed his first injury-free pre-season in several years. He has a history of shoulder injuries.
