GEELONG captain Cameron Ling will announce his retirement on Wednesday, according to reports.
The Herald Sun reports that the reigning premiership skipper will bring an end to his 246-game career and is set to pursue a role in the media next year.
"The 30-year-old is believed to have been weighing up his future for some time and informed coach Chris Scott and club officials of the decision," the newspaper says.
Ling played a vital role in Saturday's Grand Final, restricting Brownlow medallist Dane Swan to 20 possessions and kicking the final goal of the match.
Ling was selected at No.38 in the 1999 National Draft, quickly transitioning from a handy forward to one of the best taggers in the League, winning the club best and fairest in 2004.
The three-time premiership Cat also won All Australian honours in 2007.
