The 2007 AFL Players Mother of the Year finalists are Lizzie Davey (mother of Aaron and Alwyn), Sally Pettifer (mother of Kayne) and Fay Tuck (mother of Shane and Travis).
The award is hosted by the AFL Players Association and the Kangaroos Network of Women (KNOW) and is open to the mothers of players from all AFL clubs.
The finalists are chosen from nominations received from AFL players from across the League and the award will be presented to the winner at a cocktail party on Thursday 10 May starting at 6.30pm.
The Mother of the Year is a mum who has been involved with her son/s football career from the beginning and still takes an active role. She gives 110% commitment and loyalty to his career, her family and her chosen football club.
The judges consider the entrant’s ability to meet challenges, obstacles or adversity placed before them and how they rose above these obstacles.
They should show a spirit that is inspirational to those who know them and have a belief that with teamwork great things can be achieved.
The Kangaroos Network of Women (KNOW) launched the AFLPA Mother of the Year in 2005 as an annual award acknowledging the contribution of mothers to Australian football.
Funds raised from the presentation event will be donated to OvCa Australia, a network raising awareness of Ovarian Cancer.
