WEST Coast forward Oscar Allen has described Willie Rioli as the most talented footballer he's ever played with as the Eagles eagerly await a reunion with the premiership goalsneak.

Rioli's AFL career was in the balance after he was caught with 24.23g of cannabis during a screening at Darwin airport on April 23.

The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to possession in a Darwin court, but he escaped conviction and was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond.

The Eagles announced on Wednesday night that they will give Rioli another chance, and the star forward has since landed in Perth from his home of the Tiwi Islands.

Rioli's two-year ban for twice substituting urine during an anti-doping test and testing positive to cannabis on game day is due to expire on August 20, and he is free to resume training from June 20.

West Coast players can catch up with Rioli socially, but the goalsneak isn't allowed back at the club until June 20.

"We're excited. We haven't seen him for more than two years," Allen said on Thursday.

"I remember talking about it, and all the first and second-year players haven't played with him before.

"I had a year and a half with him. It's definitely been a long time. We can't wait to see him."

If all goes to plan, Rioli will be available to play for West Coast in the final game of the home-and-away season.

"We played in the forward line together. We all saw what he can bring on field. He's probably the most talented player I've ever played with," Allen said.

"If he gets everything done and he is training well, that (selection) will come. He's a really good player, so you tend to be able to find a way to fit good players in your side."

Allen ended any whispers about his future by signing a three-year contract extension earlier this week, tying him to the club until the end of 2025.

The 22-year-old is rated as one of the best young forwards in the competition, and he would have attracted huge offers if he decided to jump ship.

Allen said that was never a prospect of happening.

"I grew up in Perth and have loved the club ever since I was a kid," Allen said.

"All I wanted to do was to play for the Eagles long-term, and to be able to achieve that goal has been unbelievable for me."

West Coast will be aiming to bounce back to the winners' list when it takes on Essendon at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

The Eagles will again be without star defender Jeremy McGovern, who is set to miss another four weeks with a knee injury.
