“I’m feeling a bit busted up and sore all over,’’ Kennelly said as he took part in a walk and swim this morning.
Kennelly was concussed last night after receiving a knock from St Kilda defender Zac Dawson during a marking contest in the final term.
Sydney Swans doctor Nathan Gibbs said he had spoken this morning to Kennelly, and also to Nick Malceski, who was dazed during a first quarter collision with Saints forward Justin Koschitzke but played out the rest of the game.
“Both of them were concussed, and sore around the head and neck area. It’s effectively like a whiplash injury with concussion,’’ Gibbs said.
“But it’s a good sign that both of them are not too bad today. We’ll assess them further during the week,’’ he said.
Despite the sorry end to his night, Kennelly said it had been great to get back on the field in the red and white after a year away playing Gaelic football in Ireland.
“I loved being back out there,’’ he said. “But my kicking was a bit off which was disappointing. I turned the ball over a few times.
“We should have won the game, so that was disappointing. It gives us hope because we beat them at inside 50s, we beat them at contested footy, but we weren’t smart enough with the ball when we had it,’’ Kennelly said.
