The major prize winner in the 2007 Hawthorn Raffle went to Hawthorn member, Sean Cummins, who is over the moon to receive his $50,000 first prize.

The 2007 Hawthorn Football Club and Box Hill Hawks Annual Raffle raises money for the Club’s community programs including Hawk Heroes – Everyday Champions, multi-cultural and schools programs and charity partnerships.

In hearing of his big win, Sean was delighted to take home the $50,000 major prize. For an initial $200 raffle ticket – the prize was a great return on investment - but far from the motivation behind the Creative Designers contribution to the Club.

“Winning – It’s something we never really contemplated. We just do these things to have that good feeling that we’ve supported the Club.”

After lengthy discussions with his family – they decided to contribute much of their winnings to selected charities and to re-invest in their greatest love - the Hawthorn Football Club.

“The family sat down and all felt very strongly about supporting a couple of charities and also re-investing back in the Club.”

Sean has been a member of the Club for 18 years and he and his family are ardent Hawthorn supporters. Sean’s 11 year old daughter, Pepa, selected the Seeing Eye Dogs charity to contribute to and his 13 year old son, J.J, selected Beyond Blue – the national depression initiative.

The win came by surprise to Sean. His wife Michele had secretly bought him a ticket and entered him into the competition. When the call came from the Club it came without notice.

Sean was shocked but delighted to have won the raffle.

“I’m sure Michele may have casually mentioned it earlier this year - maybe it says something about my listening skills, not her communicational skills!

“We are mad Hawks supporters, a mad Hawks family – so it’s a real thrill” Cummins said.
