The Blues haven't beaten the Swans since round eight of the 2000 season and previously Ratten has made a poor record against a side a real focus going into the match.
But after mixed results, he said he had decided to avoid the subject with his group in the lead-up to the match.
"Who are we playing this week?" Ratten quipped at his weekly press conference at Visy Park on Wednesday.
"In my time after taking over as coach we wanted to change a few records and we probably played that over the top [a bit].
"We said it time and time again because we had a lot of records to change. Some we haven't changed yet, but we'll just keep chipping away and maybe work on what we have to do instead of who the opposition is.
"Maybe it's a chance for us to just focus on what we have to do this week, the way we want to play and the way that we can actually execute our game plan the best we can."
Heath Scotland and Nick Stevens must impress the coach at training to earn back their spots in the senior side after the Bullants were idle last weekend with the bye. With a few sore bodies coming out of Saturday's win against the Tigers, Ratten faces another tricky selection meeting.
"That's the big one for us; do we introduce Nick and Heath back into the team or are the things that we want to happen on match day going accordingly?" he mused.
"It's a tough one. They're in our best 22 when they're up and in good form.
"We didn't play last week at Bullants' level, but that probably doesn't matter too much. They're quality players that could come in. Their training performance might tell the tale for us.
"They're both head down and bum up, so they've been working pretty hard on and off the training track. Hopefully that will come through in their games when they come back in."
Some good news on the injury front with Andrew Walker cleared to return through the VFL after recovering from his latest shoulder surgery.
Ratten said he had noticed a stark contrast in Walker's approach following the successful operation to strengthen the joint and felt his time with the Bullants' could be brief.
"It's a lot tighter for him so it will take a Mack truck to move it – he's a lot more confident in his ball handling and putting his arm up," he said.
"If he impresses straight up he might be in the following week. I'd love to get him back in. I think his energy and running ability [is excellent] and maybe that x-factor we lost with Jarrad Waite we might get back with Andrew Walker."
Sam Jacobs will also play his first game since round four in the VFL, but prize recruit Robbie Warnock will be given another week to ensure he is over the foot injury that has stalled his introduction to the side.
