WHAT looked like a meaningless game on the schedule two weeks ago now has some genuine interest with a turnaround in fortunes for both clubs. The Lions have won successive matches against Carlton and the Western Bulldogs, while the Giants have had golden chances to defeat both Hawthorn and Essendon in the past fortnight before falling just short. Both will see it as a chance to win and avoid another week of wooden spoon talk. The Lions have taken the game on in their recent wins, with the 'Mozzie Squad' of Dayne Zorko, Josh Green and Lewis Taylor again likely to be a key to victory. If both teams bring the intensity of the past fortnight, this should be an entertaining contest.

THE SIX POINTS
1. The Lions have pummelled the Giants in their only two encounters, kicking 37 goals to 14 and winning by a combined 152 points.

2. The Giants continue to be an impressive clearance team in 2014, ranked second behind only Hawthorn, averaging 41.5 a game. The Lions are 14th with just 37.7 a game.

3. No team has taken less marks inside 50 this season than the Lions' 6.7 a game. The Giants have been only slightly better at 8.9 a game.

4. Lions defender-turned-forward Daniel Merrett has been the most prolific goalkicker between the teams, kicking nine goals in the two matches, thanks largely to a career-high seven in 2012.

5. Both teams have struggled for disposals so far this season, with the Giants (47.7 a game) ranked second for clangers, and the Lions (46.7) fifth.

6. Adam Treloar continues his rapid rise up the AFL Official Player Ratings. After another 27 disposals and three goals last week, Treloar is now ranked 79th overall – up from 151st at the start of the season.

Prediction: Brisbane Lions by 19 points
