The draft will be held on Wednesday May 15 via video-conferencing that will link Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, with AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou to call the top 10 players.
The selected players will form two teams that will represent Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs, playing in a curtain-raiser on the MCG during AFL Women’s Round on Saturday June 29.
The game will be the first time clubs have competed in an AFL sanctioned women’s match.
It is an initiative of the Melbourne Football Club with the Melbourne sector of the draft to be conducted in the club’s boardroom.
The teams' coaches will be announced on Monday May 13.
AFL General Manager National and International Development Andrew Dillon said there would be a big pool of playing talent to choose from.
“Already nominations have been received from current players and talented athletes from other sports. I’m anticipating the match will be of a very high standard,” he said.
