The Kangaroos Network of Women has started the season with its own name change, reflecting its passion for the club.

The new Northern Lights name reflects the group’s desire be an inspiration, and a positive, leading light at the North Melbourne Football Club.

The group was established to provide a range of networking opportunities for women who support the club and will again run a 2010 program of activities.

The Northern Lights are also proud to announce their sponsorship of 2010 rookie player, Conor Meredith from Laois, Ireland.

“The group decided that given Conor is a long way from home and a long way from his mum, perhaps some support from the female members of the club wouldn’t go astray,” Northern Lights committee member, Jo Turton said.

“We have a proud history of sponsoring first year players, and we are thrilled to see how well Ben Warren is now doing in the senior side, having sponsored Ben from 2006.”

Conor spoke at Saturday’s brunch about how much he is enjoying his time with North and with Werribee reserves, sharing a house with Alan Obst and Levi Greenwood and looking forward to his opportunities to step up to the next level.

Members of Melbourne University Women’s Football Team (the Mugars), Captain Kylie Byrne and President Nicole Cooper, as well as Director of Sponsorship for the Victorian Women’s Football League, Liz Walcott, also attended the brunch and spoke to members about their experience with the VWFL.

The Northern Lights was established to provide a range of networking opportunities for women who support the North Melbourne Football Club, and will again run a program of activities during 2010 for the benefit of female members who support the club.
