The second City Hawks lunch for 2010 was held on Wednesday 26 May and included a special guest speaker in the form of Peter Hudson.

The Hon. Jeff Kennett hosted proceedings, which included an impassioned speech given by Hawthorn Hall of Fame Legend Peter Hudson.

Peter spoke of the culture at Hawthorn and how it drew him to join the Club in 1967.

He discussed the strength and belief of the playing group and felt that along with such a great Coach in John Kennedy, they could win a Grand Final (which they did in 1971).

Hudson believes the six successful priorities of the Hawthorn Football Club are:

  1. Great Coach
  2.  Great Captain
  3. Great support people - supporting the whole Club
  4. Great work ethic
  5. No favorites, playing for the jumper
  6. Respect

As Peter discussed, he believes the successful future of the Club is based on the Board, administration, players, over 53,000 wonderful members and all other supporters of the Club giving more than 100 percent.

Questions from the audience on the day included:
  1. How important is the Tasmanian relationship to this Club going forward?
  2. Did you ever kick a drop punt in your days, and how do you relate a torpedo with a punt in today’s football?
  3. Do you think when you went down and you had kicked eight by half time, was there any malice in the way you fell? Did the Melbourne blokes try to up-end you or do you think it was an accident? (First half of first game v Melbourne in 1972 where Peter injured his knee)

Listen to Peter's full speech including his address to the questions above.

The Hawks presenting partner Elite Property Care donated the business card draw prize, with John Finch from the Goodguys Nunawading taking home two bottles of premium Tamar Ridge wines and a 2010 Hawthorn-signed guernsey.

First time winner of the Lucky Hawk sticker draw was Elissa Stephens from Leader Community Newspapers, taking home a 2010 Replica Kokoda Guernsey, also proudly donated by Elite Property Care.

The next lunch will be held on Wednesday 28 July with Guest speaker/s to be announced.

Bookings for the remaining luncheons in 2010 are open. Ensure you don’t miss out by securing your seat now.
