Dane Swan’s wish to be a Magpie for life was granted by the club when the star midfielder announced to the sporting world he had signed a three-year deal to keep the Pie in black and white stripes until the end of 2014.
Swan addressed the media before training on Wednesday and discussed the passion he has for the club he was drafted to in 2001.
“I am very proud to be a Collingwood player for life,” Swan told the pack of media at the side of Gosch’s Paddock.
“I feel very honoured they want me for that long.
“I am rapt it's over and done with and I can focus on playing footy for Collingwood.”
The 27-year-old quashed rumors that he had received playing offers from other clubs.
“I didn’t have any offers. None that I knew of.
“I love Melbourne and I love my friends and family and this is where I want to be.
“I want to be a Pie for life.”
When pushed on the issue of teammates Dale Thomas and Scott Pendlebury, who both will be out of contract at the end of the year, Swan made his stance clear.
“Maxy and Harry have already resigned. As for Pendles and Dale they will make up their own mind in their own time.
“It would be an amazing achievement if we could all stay together and have some more success on the field. Football is a business these days and you can’t expect to be together forever.”
Swan spoke of the plea made by captain Nick Maxwell at the end of the year to remain as a group and strive for continued success at the club.
“At the end of the season, after we won the flag, Maxy spoke to us and said we can have long success. Most of the boys know that. We have a talented list and (we can) go a long way in the next few years.”
