Collingwood Football Club can confirm that player Leon Davis suffered a broken jaw on Friday evening as a result of him being set upon after leaving a hotel in the suburbs.

Club doctors examined Davis on Saturday and as a result admitted him to Epworth Hospital for surgery. That surgery was successfully completed and he was discharged on Sunday morning.

Club doctors estimate Leon will be off the training track for a couple of weeks and will resume full contact work in 4-6 weeks.

Inquiries indicate Leon was not involved in any incidents leading up to this unfortunate event and that he was a victim of an assault.
