Team of the Decade

After brief stints with Collingwood and the Bulldogs in the late 90s, Mahoney found himself toiling away for the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL during the early stages of the decade. Things changed drastically for Mahoney, when, as a 26-year-old, he was plucked from relative obscurity with the final pick in the 2004 pre-season draft. Mahoney’s meteoric rise continued when he cemented his place in the Power’s 22 mid way through 2004, not missing a game after round 8, with his defensive pressure playing an important part in the Power’s Premiership forward line. He continued to impress in the 2005 and 2006, leading the Power’s goalkicking in 06 with 29 goals, and was promoted to the leadership group in 2007 before announcing his retirement at the end of that season.
