Sydney assistant coach Ross Lyon has said the one-off exhibition match against the Kangaroos in Los Angeles on Sunday 15 January will not distract the club from its primary goal - to be in peak condition for the opening round of the 2006 season.

The match, to be played at UCLA, has been arranged as part of a special 'Australia Week' promotion, and while the defending AFL premiers will be preparing as thoroughly as possible, they are keeping the engagement in perspective.

"This game is unique for the Swans. We haven't played an exhibition game for a fair while. We've got to make sure that the players in the squad who are going to play are in reasonable condition," said Lyon.

"They'll collect a few bumps and bruises and dish some out so they've been doing a little bit more tackling than they would have and working on the pattern of play and ball use a little bit earlier than normal, but it's nothing dramatic, nothing that's going to disrupt our program.

"Our whole aim is round one. We've been thumped in the Wizard Cup in the last couple of years. Our priority is the first round and we don't let anything interfere with that, but we've got to do justice to the exhibition game and we need to prepare the players to acquit themselves well.

Lyon said the entire playing list would travel, but the coaching staff had not finalised the make-up of the team to take on the Kangaroos.

"Obviously our rookies and first, second and third year players would like to play and there'll be a sprinkling of senior players who are available, but no-one's going to be risked."
