QUEENSLAND has put forward an offer to host the next three NAB AFL Drafts, but the League is yet to decide on a location for this year's event.
The draft has been staged at the Gold Coast Convention Centre for the past three years, but the state's contract with the AFL expired at the end of 2014.
A spokesperson for Tourism and Events Queensland told AFL.com.au it had in December offered to host the event from 2015-17, but the statutory body has not been advised whether the League will take up the deal.
The proposal from the Queensland department is understood to still stand, but the League said it is yet to make a final call on its draft plans.
As well as the Gold Coast, other cities including Melbourne, Adelaide and several regional locations have been linked to hosting the draft since last year.
A spokesperson for the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, which held the draft the last time it was in Melbourne in 2009, said it could not comment on events "without client approval".
The draft has been a success since moving interstate, with the football industry converging upon Broadbeach the past three seasons.
It was first staged in Queensland in 2010 when Gold Coast dominated the top-end of the draft, before shifting to western Sydney in 2011 when GWS had nine of the first 11 selections.
In recent years the League has also used the opportunity to hold meetings with coaches and club chief executives.
Before last year's draft, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the League would like to continue to have the event on the Gold Coast but not at any cost.
"I'd like it to stay here but we're not wedded to it. If the government up here doesn't want to pursue it, there are other good things we could do with it," he said.
"Our industry loves coming up here, and the numbers suggest for Tourism Queensland and Gold Coast tourism it is a success and it has been a great fillip for footy in this state."

The League is also believed to be investigating what it can do to build up the events around draft week, wherever it is located.
It has indicated its desire to grow Grand Final week after witnessing the events in the lead-up to the NFL Super Bowl in America, and that philosophy could also apply to the days before the draft.
The draft is generally held in late November, although there could be some complication with that this year given the International Rules test match will be played on Saturday November 21 in Ireland.
