MANY believed emerging key position player Jackson Trengove would head to the city of churches following Saturday's NAB AFL Draft.

And the experts and amateur pundits attempting phantom drafts can now say they got it right.

But which of the Adelaide clubs Trengove landed at might not have been so cut and dry.

One could imagine Port Adelaide officials boarding their plane back to South Australia with a bound in their step.

They might well have felt particularly pleased with their draft-day bounty, especially given they not only landed local boy and gun midfielder Hamish Hartlett in the first round, but also the highly-touted surprise slider Trengove with pick 22.

Tipped by many to be a Crow, the Calder Cannon will instead head to Alberton where he is looking forward to getting started on the next phase of his career.

"I'm pretty happy just to be on an AFL list at the moment, so it doesn't really matter whether it's interstate or home. I'm just happy to get the opportunity to play AFL football," Trengove said from Telstra Dome on Saturday.

"I'm just over the moon that I get the chance to play AFL football.

"I wasn't too worried about where I was going to go; I'm pretty comfortable with going interstate so it was good to be going to Port."

Port Adelaide fans can expect the versatile tall to hit the training track as soon as he arrives in Adelaide.

A serious hamstring injury in which he tore the muscle from the bone derailed much of Trengove's 2008 season but he says that should not influence his first summer at his new club.

"It's starting to come good now. I just need to strengthen all my ankle and the hamstring, get that all strong before I get into it," he said.

"I've started training with my local club, the Calder Cannons, so I should be right to start pre-season with Port."

Trengove said he had briefly met Power coach Mark 'Choco' Williams but was looking forward to getting to know his new teammates.

A couple, in particular, appear to be cut from the same stone as the fiercely competitive 18-year-old.

"The Cornes brothers, they look pretty tough and hard so it should be good to get over there and have a kick with them."
