Nick Malceski tells sydneyswans.com.au about his season highlights, why he wore long sleeves for the last few rounds and which team-mate impressed him most...
What were some of your highlights from the 2010 season?
At the start of the year we were flying as a team and then we had a few injuries that really hurt us in the middle of the year. We finished the season off strongly and although we would have loved to have beaten the Bulldogs, that wasn’t the case and we just have to get ourselves ready for a big preseason. The final against Carlton was certainly one the highlights of the season.
Personally, I had a better year than last year. This time last year I was wondering where I was going to be and what I was going to be doing, so it was a better year for me, but I think I’ve still got a lot of improvement I can make to my game. I thought my game against Port Adelaide was probably my best for the year, it was the first time I wore the long sleeves and wore them every week after that.
Which of your teammates have most impressed you this year?
Kieren Jack, coming from where he was last year, where he was still learning the game, he really became an elite midfielder. I’m sure he has still got some areas of his game he’d like to improve on that will make him even better. He was probably stiff not to make the All-Australian squad.
What are the areas you will be looking to improve for next year?
Personally, I’ll be working on my consistency, making sure that I don’t have any drop-offs during matches and that I’m concentrating for the whole 120 minutes of every game.
From a team sense, the last seven weeks of the season really typified what we’re about as a group - hard, contested footy. When we do that and do it well we tend to win games so I think that’s one thing we need to take into the start of next year and make sure we don’t drop off in that area.
What are your plans for the break?
After the Club Champion Dinner I’ll be heading to America with a couple of the boys. Then I’ve got my fiancé coming over to America to spend a bit of time in New York. I haven’t been overseas for a while so I’m really looking forward to it.
