A DECISION on the playing future of Western Bulldogs veteran Jason Akermanis will be handed down on Tuesday.

Akermanis was involved in meetings with his teammates, coaches and the club’s administration on Monday, but no resolution was made public.

“There will be an announcement tomorrow [Tuesday],” Bulldogs spokesman David McNamara confirmed.

The Brownlow Medalist has been in hot water since writing a column for the Herald Sun that suggested gay footballers should remain in the closet. A recent form slump has added to his problems.

But speaking on Melbourne Talk Radio on Monday morning, the 33-year-old declared he wanted to play on.

“The real issue is that I’m playing injured and I’ve been doing it for seven weeks,” Akermanis said.

“I’ve got nerve damage in my hamstring. I’m sick of getting bashed over the head and trying to help my team when I’m injured.”

Akermanis insisted he still had the support of his teammates.
