RICHMOND is seemingly grooming Trent Cotchin for its captaincy, announcing on Thursday that veteran Chris Newman will again be skipper next year, with Trent Cotchin to be his sole deputy.

The Tigers made the announcement at their overseas pre-season training camp in Phoenix, Arizona.

Newman, 29, and a veteran of 192 League games, enters his fourth year as the club's captain, first appointed to the position in 2009.

Cotchin, the 2011 Jack Dyer medallist, officially takes over as vice-captain after being acting captain for five games when Newman was injured at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has played 64 AFL games since making his debut with Richmond in 2008.
