IN-FORM Brisbane Lions utility Sam Mayes has signed a new three-year deal with the club.
The 22-year-old was due to come out of contract at season's end, but is now tied to the club until the end of the 2019 season.
Primarily used across half-back, Mayes has recently found form on the wing and has averaged a tick over 20 touches in his past six games.
Brisbane Lions national talent manager Peter Schwab told the club's website that the popular South Australian's early season form is a result of his hard work away from the field.
"Having had an uninterrupted pre-season Sam has taken his game to another level in 2016. His form has been very good," he said.
"As one of our long-term players it's fantastic to have him re-sign for a further three years."
Mayes was taken with pick No.8 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and has played 65 games since debuting in early 2013.
