PORT Adelaide did not know that half-back Nathan Krakouer had joined Gold Coast until it was contacted by the club on Wednesday morning.
Gold Coast has confirmed Krakouer and former Adelaide defender Nathan Bock as its inaugural signings, two weeks after Krakouer's manager Carlos De Costa informed the Power that his client wanted to leave.
However, the Power said in a statement on Wednesday that it had not been told by Krakouer or De Costa of the player's destination, despite "repeated inquiries".
"The club was informed via phone calls from Gold Coast Suns CEO Travis Auld and football manager Marcus Ashcroft at 9.30am this morning," a statement read.
Club general manager of football operations Peter Rohde said Krakouer's departure from Alberton could have been better handled.
"The football world accepts that clubs will lose players to the expansion teams, but given the commitment our football club has made to Nathan's development and welfare over the last four years, we are very disappointed at the way the matter has been handled in recent weeks," Rohde said.
Krakouer was recruited by Port Adelaide with its third-round selection (No.39 overall) in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft.
He played 40 games for the club, but a battle with osteitis pubis limited him to just seven this season.
