6:15am - After a couple of snoozes, I find myself out of bed and ready to tackle the week.
7:30am - Arrive at ProWess Sports to pick up the AFL vision from the weekend, so it can be put onto the local servers at AAMI Park. The players and coaches can then view them when they arrive.
8:30am - Rock up to AAMI Park. Pete Roberts (Football Technology Manager) and I copy over the vision of all the AFL Matches.
The coaches already have the vision from our match the day before, as Pete captures the vision and aligns it straight after the match. The behind goals vision is also aligned. The coaches can then view the normal vision, along with vision behind the goals, as a dual screen option at the same time.
8:45am - Once the vision is copied over onto the local servers, I then make my way down to the computer lab where we have some computers set up for the players to watch the weekend’s game. There is also plenty of other vision they can watch, with databases set up from previous AFL/VFL seasons.
At the same time I will upload the VFL vision from the weekend, so the players who played for Casey can view their match as well.
The vision that the AFL and VFL players can see is the whole match if they wish, but they usually choose to watch their individual involvements that are all coded as individual transactions.
A player for example can click on his kicks/handballs/marks etc for the match and view them in a few minutes without going through the whole game.
If a player was to watch their kicks, for example, they would usually watch the vision from eight seconds before they get a kick to eight seconds after their kick, so they can get the full effect of their disposal. The eight second setting can be changed to whatever they wish.
Also there is an update done on the computers around this time, which will have the specific statistics updated on the ProWess system. These can include first possessions, clearances, short kicks, switches, spoils etc. There are more than 50 statistics players can view at any time.
9:00am - All matches are now imported onto the players and coaches’ computers. They are free to view any match they wish from the weekend.
10:00am - Receive some reports from our recruiters who were out and about on the weekend. Several matches from the TAC CUP, SANFL U18, WAFL U18, private school matches and the VFL.
All players reported on have their own database, which is kept on the local server. I will then upload the documents of each individual player reported on at the weekend, and will update their database.
12:00pm - Sneak in a bit of lunch, two rolls with avocado, spinach, cheese, tomato and chicken - there’s not much better.
12:30pm - Go down the road to Champion Data to pick up the rest of the behind the goals vision from AFL matches. I also pick up the rest of the recruiting vision from the weekend.
1:00pm - The aligning process begins with the behind goals vision. The coaches can then go away that night and look at the upcoming opposition team, with behind the goals vision aligned to it.
1:45pm - Copy all the recruiting vision onto the local servers. I then make sure the vision is aligned correctly, so matches we received from the TAC Cup and SANFL U18s is similar to that of the AFL vision, where they have coded transactions for each individual player.
This needs to be ready by Tuesday, so recruiting manager Barry Prendergast and recruiting officer Gary Burleigh can view the vision, as well as our part time recruiters.
3:00pm - Continue to upload some other reports that come in from our South Australian and Western Australian recruiters.
4:00pm - Have the magnet tub placed on my desk to be ready and updated for the following week.
There are 10 different types of magnets that are used on match days, fortunately only 2 of those needs to be updated weekly!
4:45pm - The day is almost over and I get a visit from Nathan Jones. He would like all his transactions from the weekend to be put on a disk for him to view at home.
This process only takes a few minutes.
5:00pm - Pack up and head home after a successful day at the office
