Mark Harvey made the point in his post-match press conference and Matthew de Boer says it's something Freo's youngsters are determined to make happen.
"It's been mentioned amongst the younger blokes. We need to try and spread the load and stand up on big stages like the MCG," de Boer said after the 49-point defeat.
"That will definitely get a bit more of a mention during the week and we'll try and improve in that area.
"I don't think we can make excuses. We came in here, we were fresh and ready to go and confident."
Fremantle's players were left ruing missed opportunities after they failed to capitalise on their good work in a first quarter that saw them kick 2.8.
Aaron Sandilands, Matthew Pavlich and David Mundy were key players throughout, but were left to carry too much of the workload as the Tigers got their tails up.
De Boer, 21, only managed 12 possessions on the day, but was also a key contributor in keeping Richmond playmaker Dustin Martin to just 11 touches.
"He's very strong, but I just watched a bit of his vision and talked it through with our coaches to try and put a plan in place for him," de Boer said of his preparation for the big job.
"I just needed to mix it up. He's pretty strong and likes to try and control the contest. I just had to try and keep him guessing a bit."
