This year's player buy, swap and sell meet ran for four days before the first trade was put through, with five of the six trades occurring on the final day, and two within an hour of Friday's 2pm deadline.
Fantasia agreed the process could possibly be improved by reviewing its length, but said the nature of discussions would still require a substantial period of time.
"Five days … this question gets asked every year. I'm not sure if it has to be five days, but we have to be mindful that we're dealing with people's lives here and sometimes it means changing their family situations," he told afl.com.au.
"You've got to make decisions that sometimes involve them moving from one side of the country to the other.
"If you have a look at the type of players that comes in, and the financial costs that can be associated … you also want to make sure that you're getting players that are medically sound.
"You just need a process to go on, and you need time to work through that process.
"I think that's where you need to have that little bit of extra time."
Fantasia recommended the first day, where clubs convene at Telstra Dome to sound each other out before officially meeting again the following Friday, could be where the changes are made.
"You could maybe change the first day where you don't need to plough through every club," he said.
"Maybe you just go into an area and you pick your five or six clubs you want to make appointments with and then you leave yourself open … that could be tweaked.
"But the five days, if you could drop it back, it wouldn't be by much. Maybe just a day. It's very difficult otherwise."
