Mother’s Day at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital was celebrated in spectacular style by new, old and expecting mothers. A special morning tea marked the last Mother’s Day in the existing hospital and also celebrated a very special gift from Golden Casket.

Golden Casket gave the Mater a $1 million donation for the Mater’s new maternity hospital which is set to open later this month. The money will help fund crucial Cardiotocograph (CTG) equipment for the Mater Mothers’ Hospital which will assist in the early detection of fetal heart-rate problems during labour and birth.

The new Mater Mothers’ Hospital will be the busiest maternity hospital in Australia and up to 10,000 babies will be born here each year.

Mother’s Day also welcomed the arrival of some extra special gifts. Sinnamon Park resident Teneile Denford didn’t expect to be celebrating the birth of her second child for another fortnight, but baby Myles arrived early giving him the honor of the first baby born at the Mater Mothers’ on Mother’s Day. Little Myles was delivered at 1.15am by caesarian.

The Denfords said they didn't know what effect it would have with Mother's Day and Myles' birthday falling on the same day but were thrilled he joined them two weeks early.
