The Swans Reserves suffered a 21-point loss to genuine premiership contenders Belconnen on Saturday in a tight contest at Manuka Oval.
Peter Faulks performed well at fullback continuing his good form and Luke Brennan, after travelling to Perth earlier in the week, did well at centre half back. Ben Mathews and Ryan Brabazon played well on-ball and Daniel Currie, who played in the ruck, and Heath Grundy at centre half forward were also good.
Belconnen were leading by 19-points at quarter time as the Swans were not playing their usual style of one on one football, although Brabazon, Matthew Beckmans and Nick Davis goaled to keep them in the game.
At half time the margin was the same after each team kicked four goals and one point. The Swans goal kickers were Davis, Mathews, Brabazon and top-up player Greenwell.
After the half time break the Swans played much better, higher intensity football but unfortunately were not able to convert many of their opportunities in front of goal and were trailing by 15-points at three quarter time. Grundy and Greenwell kicked a goal each in this term and Jake Orreal, who was signed as a non-registered player from Queensland, kicked his first goal for the Swans.
In the last term Tim Schmidt and Beckmans goaled but they were never able to close the three goal gap.
The Swans Reserves will now meet Ainslie on Saturday June 14 at 1pm at the SCG in the curtain raiser for the Sydney and St Kilda game.
