ESSENDON’S Damien Peverill said while he's disappointed with the club's decision not to offer him another contract at Windy Hill, he insisted he holds “no animosity” over the manner in which his playing days with the Bombers have finished.

Unlike club veterans Adam Ramanauskas and Jason Johnson, Peverill did not announce his retirement on Monday, and is hopeful that he can continue his career at another AFL club.

“I’m still disappointed with the decision,” Peverill said.

“I’d hoped and prayed that I would continue to be a part of the footy club but that’s obviously not to be so I’m disappointed but not angry. There’s absolutely no animosity towards (coach) Matthew (Knights) or the club or the decision.”

The 29-year-old admitted that, as much as he would like his football career to continue at another club, he knows that it will be difficult.

“At this stage I’d still like to pursue an opportunity somewhere else if that comes up," he said.

"Obviously I realise that at 29-years-old, that opportunity is probably limited and might not eventuate, but I suppose at the moment I’m just not willing to shut the door completely on that chance.

"I suppose I’ll sit down in a few weeks, get through the footy trip first, and make a decision.”

Peverill has played 143 AFL matches for the Bombers after making his debut in 2001 and will play his last game for the club against St Kilda on Sunday.
