HAWTHORN midfielder Liam Shiels is a strong chance to miss the Hawks' season opener against Essendon at the MCG as the Match Review Panel scrutinises his high strike on Geelong forward Darcy Lang.  

Shiels struck Lang to the back of the head with his left forearm on Friday night, in an incident that will likely earn him a one-match ban with an early guilty plea.

The incident occurred in the first quarter of the Hawks' JLT Community Series clash, but would still result in a regular season ban if the MRP finds the triple premiership player guilty.

Shiels is likely to be charged with intentional conduct with low impact the head when the MRP hands down its findings on Monday afternoon.

If the Panel charges him with careless conduct instead of intentional conduct, the midfielder will escape with a $1000 fine with an early guilty plea.

Brisbane Lions defender Jack Frost will be under the microscope after a dangerous tackle on Gold Coast's Brandon Matera.

Frost was reported for the third-quarter incident in the clash at Kombumerri Park on Sunday, which Matera quickly recovered from.

Given Matera's ability to bounce up and play on, the incident is likely to be graded low impact, allowing Frost to escape with a $1000 fine with an early guilty plea.

West Coast's Will Schofield will also face scrutiny for charging into the back of Greater Western Sydney defender Nathan Wilson.

Wilson went to ground and suffered a wrist complaint but was able to play on after a short period off the ground.

If Schofield was charged, a grading of careless conduct with low impact to the body would allow him to escape with a $1000 fine with an early guilty plea.
