OUTSTANDING Vic Metro key forward Jack Watts says he couldn't be prouder of winning this year's Larke Medallist for the best division one player in the NAB AFL under 18 championships.

Watts, who has emerged as a leading No.1 draft pick contender in November, spoke of the thrill of playing in the championship side and the honour of being named the player of the series.

"I've very proud and it's a massive honour, particularly with the guys that have done it before me, so I'm extremely happy. I'm proud of my teammates and proud of myself," Watts told afl.com.au.

"I'm just enjoying it and going along with the ride. It's treated me well so far, so hopefully we can keep it that way.

"It was a massive game for us – it was Dicko's [Vic Metro coach David Dickson] last game after 12 years – so we had a lot of inspiration and a lot to work for. It's a great group of guys and I've loved every single minute with them, so I'm going to miss them."

Watts said the focus now was on school, more football and preparing for 2009.

"I'll finish off the school year and I've got more games for Brighton Grammar, so I'll hopefully get through that and then play the end of the TAC Cup season and then I'll be working for next year and trying to get my body in the best shape I can, so it doesn't take as long to get ready for that next level," Watts said.

"I've definitely have to manage school – it's a big priority of mine to stay on top of my studies – and then with the footy, I'll go along with it as I've been doing and keep rolling along and life will keep rolling along and I'll keep enjoying it."
