REIGNING Lambert-Pearce medallist Georgia Nanscawen has surged into a share of the lead after round two of the VFLW Coaches Player of the Year award after another strong performance on Saturday.
Nanscawen, who polled six votes in Essendon’s shutout of the Western Bulldogs in the opening round, added another eight in a second consecutive best-on-ground performance as the Bombers ran away from Port Melbourne by 63 points.
She joins Grace Buchan on top of the leaderboard on 14 votes after the Southern Saint picked up four votes in her team’s upset loss to Carlton and three votes clear of Hawthorn’s Tegan Cunningham, who added one to her perfect 10 in the opening round.
Another three players were judged by both coaches to have been the matchwinner in their round two matches.
Tahlia Fellows earned a perfect 10 votes after winning 18 disposals, laying six tackles and kicking 3.2 in the Casey Demons’ 42-point victory over Darebin at LaTrobe University; Bridie Kennedy tough work in the clinches to record 14 disposals, four marks and five tackles was judged as key to Williamstown’s 50-point thrashing of Western Bulldogs at VU Whitten Oval; and Collingwood star Sabrina Frederick showed the selectors she was ready for a quick return to the AFLW team with 19 disposals and four goals as the Magpies held off North Melbourne by 12 points at Arden St.
Similar to the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year, the VFLW award is voted on by the coaches of each club after every game in both competitions.
The coaches are awarding 5-4-3-2-1 to their best players in the game from either team, with those votes collated and revealed each week on vfl.com.au.
A further 37 players got themselves onto the leaderboard in Round 1, making 85 who have polled votes across the first two rounds.
