THE IMMEDIATE playing future of Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw could be decided as soon as Tuesday after he suffered his fourth concussion in 12 months while playing in the VFL at the weekend.
Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney will sit down with the club's medical team to map out a plan for Brayshaw, with an extended rest period from all football almost certain to be discussed.
The 21-year-old won't play in the Casey Demons' clash with Port Melbourne on Saturday night, but just how long he is sidelined for will become clearer after the meeting.
Returning from a two-week stint in the sidelines because of a previous head knock, Brayshaw was concussed in the first three minutes of Casey's clash against the Northern Blues at Preston City Oval on Sunday.
The young star, pick No.3 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, was collected fairly by Carlton-listed player Jed Lamb as he went to win a disputed ball at half-back.
Brayshaw also sustained a concussion against North Ballarat in round two of the VFL in April.
The Demons will take a conservative approach with Brayshaw given his injury history, although it is understood – at this stage – that Brayshaw is keen to play once he is medically cleared.
Melbourne opted to rest Brayshaw for a month when he suffered two concussions in the space of three weeks last May.
Brayshaw has played 33 games for Melbourne, including the first two matches of this season.
