The AFL is pleased to announce a new three-year partnership with DrinkWise Australia that will see the AFL support the important message of responsible consumption of alcohol to all Australians.
A centre-piece of the partnership will see the result of the Score Review System displayed on the big screen at AFL matches.
The Score Review System will operate as per normal with the officiating umpiring referring a decision to the score review official.
The umpire will communicate their initial call through the ground PA system as has previously occurred.
The official will then examine all available vision and once a decision has been reached communicate that information to the scoreboard operator.
Fans, both in the stadium and at home, along with players and umpires will all find out the result of the score review via the big screen.
The new activation will be rolled out at all AFL venues over the coming months, with the technology to be in place for Round 7 matches at the MCG, Etihad Stadium, Adelaide Oval and Domain Stadium.
AFL General Manager of Football Operations Simon Lethlean said the partnership would help promote a positive change to the way Australians consume alcohol.
"The AFL is pleased to partner with DrinkWise Australia to promote the You won't miss a moment if you DrinkWise message to football fans," Mr Lethlean said.
"The behaviour of the vast majority of football fans is exemplary but we acknowledge the importance of responsible consumption of alcohol both at the game, in a licensed venue or at home.
"The Score Review System has become an accepted part of our game and we feel this improvement to the way the result is communicated will benefit both fans in attendance at the ground, streaming online or watching on television."
DrinkWise CEO John Scott welcomed the partnership with the AFL and the ongoing collaboration across industry to encourage responsible drinking behaviour during the AFL season.
"We're excited to join with the AFL to remind those at the ground or watching the telecast to enjoy all the great AFL moments on offer. No one wants to miss game-changing moments as a result of drinking too much, so we encourage fans who are consuming alcohol to do so in moderation."

This initiative marks an industry first, conveying a unified moderation message which encourages sports fans, music lovers and festival-goers to drink responsibly and ensure they don’t miss the most memorable moments of an event.
