WEST Coast has opted to keep Mitch Brown out of East Perth's WAFL elimination final on Sunday as cover for sore ruckman Scott Lycett.
Brown, who played as the Eagles' second ruckman in three games earlier this season, and young defender Jackson Nelson haven’t been named in East Perth's squad for the cut-throat final with Peel Thunder on Sunday.
East Perth is the Eagles' WAFL-aligned club and the Eagles play just four days later against the Western Bulldogs in their own do-or-die elimination final at Domain Stadium.
Lycett is battling severe soreness in his left knee courtesy of a lingering posterior cruciate injury he suffered mid-season. The Eagles sent him for scans earlier this week after he pulled up sore following the win over Adelaide.
Eagles coach Adam Simpson said on Thursday that Lycett was 'OK' and 'should be fine' to face the Bulldogs next week but he conceded that the ruckman would need to be carefully managed at training over the weekend.
The Eagles will train on Saturday and there is a potential some other players could be held back from the East Perth side as the team is still to be finalised from the 26-man squad named.
Jack Redden, Eric Mackenzie and Liam Duggan have all been picked for East Perth but Redden is a chance to be held over as cover in case of any late injuries or illnesses to midfielders in the lead-up to Thursday's final against the Bulldogs.
Peel has named an extremely strong squad to face East Perth with 18 Fremantle-listed players included in the 26.
Alex Silvagni, Darcy Tucker, Ed Langdon, Michael Apeness, Shane Yarran, Connor Blakely and Matt de Boer all played in the Dockers' round 23 win last Sunday, but have all qualified to play in the finals for Peel and have been named for Sunday's clash.
