Innovations in Sustainable Living

Living in a share house with uni students can provide all types of dilemmas in sustainable living. However, there are still many ways in which we can reduce our environmental impact, even with a limited budget.

Riding or walking to the supermarket saves us money and carbon emissions by leaving the cars in the carport. Taking green bags with us reduces the estimated 500 billion - 1 trillion plastic bags worldwide that end up in landfill each year.

Five people in a house equates to at least five showers a day but often more due to work/footy training etc. By keeping showers to less than four minutes and even showering with a friend water consumption can be drastically reduced.

One of the most expensive aspects of living can be purchasing new clothes. Op shops and second hand stores provide quality used clothing options at a fraction of the price. Recycling clothes conserves raw materials and natural resources which is extremely important when you consider the production of one cotton t-shirt requires 1/3 pound of pesticide.

We hope these tips can help you to live more sustainably too!
