After proclaiming 2010 as a ‘make or break year’, Ed Lower started strongly with some good performances in the NAB Cup.

But his fortunes quickly changed when he broke his leg against Hawthorn in a pre-season match in Ballarat which forced him out for six weeks.

A 29-possession effort in the VFL earned him a recall and he was desperate to stake a claim for a regular senior spot.

While he didn't have any stand-out performances, Lower looked to be getting back to his best when injury again struck him down. This time, he broke his collar bone early in the match against the Bulldogs in round 18. To his credit, Lower battled through and played out the rest of the game.

With his season over prematurely and another contract thankfully on the table, the midfielder will be desperate to get back into training ahead of what could ultimately be another ‘make or break’ year.

AFL.com.au’s Steve Lavell says: Fractured his leg during the pre-season and had to wait until round 11 for a recall. Natural aggression bolstered a young midfield until he missed the last four weeks with a broken collarbone. Future seems safe.

Reckon Ed would have had a breakout season this year if it wasn’t for the injuries, but when he was fit he played well and played his part in the team. He really stepped up in the midfield this year especially losing Harris and Simpson at the end of last season. Good to hear that he will be staying at North for at least another season with a contract on the table. Ed's one of my many favourite players at North and really hope that he has a break out year in 2011 and its obvious he'll do anything to make sure it is.
