TICKETS for the highly anticipated Hall of Fame Tribute Match at the MCG on May 10 will go on sale from April 2.
Fans will also have the opportunity to bid on-line at the Ticketmaster website for the ultimate match day experience consisting of a cocktail event with past players and reserved seating for the Hall of Fame match.
Former Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley, who captained the Allies state of origin team in 1997, said the match was not only a celebration of 150 years of Australian Football but it also gave fans the chance to witness the 'best of the best' in one arena.
“The Allies concept was fantastic and gave the states outside of South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia the chance to represent their home towns and home states,” he said.
“You follow your clubs and you follow them with passion, but you won’t get better talent than the 50 guys that’ll be running around for the Dream Team side or the Victorian side.”
On Saturday, May 10 the Victorian team, coached by Mark Thompson and captained by Jonathan Brown, will play the Dream Team, representing all the other states and territories and coached by Mark Williams and captained by Andrew McLeod.
AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou has described the response of the players to the match as “extraordinary” and said the league would not be required to issue sanctions to players who avoided playing. Many AFL players not playing in the tribute match are expected to visit community clubs on the weekend of May 10-11.
“There’ll be some press around guys who don’t play because they’re injured but the fact is we’ll see the best talent go around the MCG celebrating this fantastic anniversary and we should all get down there and have a look,” Buckley said.
Hall of Fame Tribute Match tickets can be purchased from April 2 at 11am by visiting the Ticketmaster website or calling 1300 136 122.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame ultimate match day experience will be auctioned on-line on Wednesday, March 26. Further details can be found at the Ticketmaster website.
