The AFL is pleased to announce Jack Higgins from the Richmond Football Club has been named as the winner of the 2018 Coates Hire Goal of the Year Award.
Higgins was presented with his prize, $10,000 thanks to Coates Hire, during tonight’s Brownlow Medal Ceremony at Crown Palladium, Melbourne.
Richmond’s Higgins took the Coates Hire Goal of the Year in Round 19 of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season in a match against the Collingwood Football Club at the MCG.
Higgins won ahead of fellow finalists Charlie Cameron (Brisbane Lions – Round 5) and Luke Parker (Sydney Swans – Round 1).
Coates Hire National Marketing Manager, Elle Fleming said the company was pleased to again partner the AFL in awarding the Coates Hire Goal of the Year.
“We are proud to again partner with the AFL on the Coates Hire goal of the year. Each year we have seen more and more impressive goals and I’m sure it’s been a tough decision for the fans choosing the most deserving kick.” Ms Fleming said.
“Congratulations to Jack Higgins, 2018 Coates Hire Goal of the Year winner.
“As the Official AFL Hire Equipment Partner, we are delighted to continue our support in bringing this amazing competition to life,” she said.
Changes to the process to determine the top three, and therefore the overall winner, of the Coates Hire Goal of the Year came into effect for the 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
After each of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season’s 23 rounds, footy fans voted for their favourite weekly Coates Hire Goal of the Year from a selection of three goals as nominated by the AFL.
In addition to the 23 weekly Coates Hire Goal of the Year winners, the AFL chose an additional two goals from the season to be considered by the AFL All Australian committee in determining the season’s top three.
The AFL All Australian committee voted, and their results determined the top three goals of the 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership Season out of 25 in contention. These goals were selected based on a 5/4/3/2/1 vote given by each member of the selection committee.
The ten-person AFL All Australian committee consists of: Gillon McLachlan (chairman), Steve Hocking, Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson and Warren Tredrea.
The most popular fan choice will then become the eleventh vote when the AFL All Australian committee meets again to cast a single vote for the overall 2018 Coates Hire Goal of the Year winner.
All members of the public that voted during the 23 rounds of the 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership Season or for one of top three finalists and correctly picked a winner in the 2018 Coates Hire Goal of the Year went into the draw to win the major prize draw of $10,000.
