CARLTON will be without Levi Casboult for the next six to eight weeks after the power forward fractured the tibia in his left leg during a marking contest in the first quarter against Port Adelaide.
After the match, the club confirmed the 26-year-old suffered a hairline fracture at the top of the bone, but would not require surgery.
Midfielder Patrick Cripps also sent a scare through the Blues' camp after being on the receiving end of an accidental hit to the head from Hamish Hartlett in the third term, before landing on his heavily strapped right knee.
Luckily for Blues fans, the 21-year-old returned to the field early in the fourth quarter and appeared to have escaped serious injury.
Brisbane Lions midfielder Dayne Beams could miss the rest of the season after his troublesome left knee tendinitis flared up against Collingwood, in what was just his second game for the season.
On Sunday, Lions chief executive Greg Swann said Beams could be out for the whole year, with specific timeframes to be known following the results of scans.
Gary Ablett's left leg appeared to get caught under a Jacob Hopper tackle while the skipper's head collided into Matt Buntine's hip in the dying seconds of the match against GWS.
Fortunately for the injury-ravaged Suns, Ablett seemed to walk away unscathed from the tackle with just a slight concussion from the head knock.
The news was not as good for North Melbourne's Mason Wood, who was left heavily concussed and began convulsing when he landed head-first after latching onto a strong pack mark in the third quarter.
The 22-year-old, who was taken off the ground on a motorised stretcher, was alert in the rooms and taken to hospital for precautionary tests soon after the incident.
Cats defender Tom Lonergan was involved in an accidental head clash with teammate Lachie Henderson in the opening minutes of the first term against Adelaide, and sat out the match after failing a concussion test.
Fremantle captain David Mundy received medical attention for a left ankle/calf problem in the final quarter against Hawthorn after his foot became trapped under Hawk Liam Shiels.
Dockers speedster Stephen Hill had ice applied to his left adductor muscle and took no further part in the game.
The 26-year-old picked up the injury in the third quarter as he ran out of the Dockers' defence and turned the ball over with a shanked kick.
Just minutes later, Docker Danyle Pearce was in obvious discomfort after slipping on his ankle in the back pocket, but managed to play on.
In other injuries at the weekend:
- Collingwood forward Mason Cox came off worse for wear after teammate Darcy Moore stomped on his left hand against the Lions. The 25-year-old had his hand taped at three-quarter time and will be assessed further this week
- Gold Coast's horror injury run continued, with running half-back Adam Saad sustaining a right hamstring injury against GWS. The 21-year-old had ice applied to the affected area during the third quarter and did not reappear.
- Compounding matters for the Suns, midfielders Danny Stanley (hamstring) and Luke Russell (Achilles) were both injured in the NEAFL on Saturday.
- Hawks defender Grant Birchall landed awkwardly on his left shoulder from a Lachie Weller tackle in the fourth term against the Dockers, and received medical attention on the bench.
- Richmond defender Bachar Houli will be assessed for the right wrist injury he hurt at training that forced him out of Saturday night's clash against the Sydney Swans.
- Swans onballer Josh Kennedy will also be put through his paces after missing the clash against the Tigers with a minor hamstring complaint.
