Williamstown and Port Melbourne met in a crucial Round 20 clash in VFL Football. The prize for the winning team was a home final in Week 1 of the Finals and Port Melbourne entered the game on the back of 21 consecutive wins at TEAC Oval. Port Melbourne made one change from the side that defeated Sandringham in Round 19 – goal sneak Wayne Schulz came in for injured David Robbins. Williamstown gained Dylan Addison from the Bulldogs and recalled Cameron Lockwood and Malcolm Lynch. Out of the side went Jarrad Grant, Nick Georgiadis, Henry White and Andrejs Everitt.

First Quarter

Port Melbourne kicked with the breeze in the opening quarter and quickly took advantage by kicking the opening 3 goals through Phillip Raymond, Toby Pinwill and John Baird. Sam Dwyer and Nathan Batsanis were playing well for the Burra as they threatened to open the game up. Willi steadied through Ben Davies, Brett Johnson and Ben Jolley and when Patrick Rose and Matthew Little goaled, Willi had steadied the ship. Port responded through Batsanis who kicked their fourth goal before Rose kicked his second on the siren.
Williamstown        3.1
Port Melbourne    4.2

Second Quarter
Willi now had use of the breeze but it was Port Melbourne through Ryan McMahon who kicked the opening goal to extend their lead. The Willi defence through Tim Callan, Jarrad Boumann, Dylan Addison, Stephen Tiller and Easton Wood were holding firm and eventually forwards Rose, Little, Galea and Stack were able to break free to kick goals and establish a handy 6 point lead at the main break.
Williamstown        7.4
Port Melbourne    6.4

Third Quarter
The Seagulls defensive pressure was outstanding. Dean Galea was on the end of some fine play to kick consecutive goals and then 18 year old Jordan Roughead took a huge contested mark to extend the lead. Matthew Little then marked and kicked a great long goal. The Seagulls lead by 25 points.
Williamstown        12.8
Port Melbourne    8.7

Fourth Quarter
The Burra was always going to fight back but inaccurate kicking for goal didn’t help their cause. Livewire little man Dylan Joyce capped off his fine game with two running goals and when Malcolm Lynch kicked a long bomb the game was over. Patrick Rose marked and kicked his fourth goal as the Seagulls won by 42 points.
