The match day report against St Kilda’s Farren Ray for making forceful high contact from front-on against the Geelong Cats’ Joel Selwood during the first quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. The panel said that both players were running to contest the ball. Ray had his arms down to collect the ball and had his eyes on the ball at all times. The St Kilda player turned his body just prior to contact being made and it was the panel’s view that Ray did not have a realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.
The match day report against Melbourne’s Aaron Davey for making forceful high contact from front-on against the Sydney Swans’ Ben McGlynn during the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. After viewing the available television footage, speaking to the umpire and receiving a written medical report from the Sydney Swans, the panel said it could not be determined if there was forceful high contact to the head or neck of player McGlynn. The video footage available showed the majority of contact was made to McGlynn’s shoulder and there was no movement of player McGlynn’s head / neck area when contact was made. No further action was taken.
Contact between Carlton’s Jarrad Waite and Richmond’s Luke McGuane from the first quarter of Thursday’s match was assessed. After examining the available footage and receiving a medical report from Richmond, it was determined that that force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. Further, the Panel was not satisfied that there was any attempt on the part of Waite to connect with greater force. No further action was taken.
Contact between Richmond’s Luke McGuane and Carlton’s Jarrad Waite from the first quarter of Thurday’s match was assessed. The force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
The panel investigated an incident between Richmond’s Mitch Morton and Carlton’s Jeremy Laidler from Thursday’s match. After interviews with both players, it could not be determined if a reportable offence had occurred. No further action was taken.
Contact between Hawthorn’s Jordan Lewis and the Adelaide Crows’ Andy Otten from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
Contact between Melbourne’s Joel McDonald and the Sydney Swans’ Jarrad McVeigh from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said McVeigh had the ball and side stepped McDonald, who jumped in the air. While in the air, McDonald stuck out his leg to try and block McVeigh. It was the view of the panel that the contact made by McDonald’s leg was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
Contact between West Coast’s Matt Rosa and North Melbourne’s Leigh Adams from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said that Adams had taken a mark as Rosa arrived at the contest with the intention to spoil the ball. Rosa’s forearm made contact with Adams’ upper arm and then slid upwards, contacting Adams high. The Panel did not believe that Rosa’s action was a striking motion and that high contact was accidental. No further action was taken.
