A promising finish to the 2009 season was the springboard for Adams' strongest season yet. He had some quieter games to start the year, but was quick to turn things around against the Swans in round four.

A hamstring injury put a dampener on things though and he would miss five games before returning at VFL level. 37 possessions for Werribee saw him quickly back in the mix though, and after being handed a chance through Nathan Grima's late withdrawal, Adams didn't turn back.

He went on to play the next eight games, and became one of North's most improved players with his hardness at the ball a feature. Adams missed the last game due to injury, but would be very pleased to get 15 games under his belt.

AFL.com.au’s Steve Lavell says: “Knew it was his make-or-break year and delivered. Had to work hard to return from a mid-season hamstring injury, but did enough to suggest he can cut it with workmanlike efforts in the midfield.”

Highlights: Round 4 v Sydney - 22 possessions, 6 tackles, 1 goal
Adams said: "The first four weeks probably haven't been to the standard that I would have liked them to have been at, but today's probably a step in the right direction."

Round 16 v Richmond - 28 possessions, 3 goals
Brad Scott said: "He's been a great performer for us all year. We lost him to injury, and quite often it's not until one of those players is not in the side that you really miss them. It's fantastic that he's getting a bit of continuity into his footy and he's really starting to show what he can do."

Round 19 v Fremantle - 33 possessions, 1 goal

Great effort from Patch, this year, was impressed with his West Coast game after getting smashed from pillar to post and still going in hard (until he got nailed again) and was close to best on in the Richmond game.

Well done on a great year Leigh. It was probably a make or break year and you stepped up as a result. I'm sure you will be a part of the Roo resurgence in 2011. Exciting times ahead. Go Roos

Suzi - September 6th
I definately rate Patch. He's great when he's got the ball. His leg speed is just plain awesome and his skills are fantastic.

Steve - September 6th
I think Patch is one of the most underrated players on our list. His attack on the footy is first class and he's a great shot on goal. Well done to him for this season, just needs to remain injury free now.

Ash - September 8th
Yeah really good forward and running midfielder. Very impressed this year and is extremely tough. Still got a long way to go but next year good be his year.

Absolutely rapt the way he played in the 2nd half of the year, strong at the ball and a terrific mark for his size. I've got a feeling he might be a gun
