THERE were some huge milestones knocked off in Round 10 of the Smithy’s VFL last week, headed by standalone stalwarts Coburg and Frankston.

The Lions played their 850th VFA/VFL away match in the heartbreaking loss to Essendon at Windy Hill on Sunday, while the Dolphins reached 500 home games as they went down to the undefeated Casey Demons at Skybus Stadium on the same day.

Their opponents also marked milestones, with the Bombers recording their 150th VFA/VFL home win in their 248th match and their 50th VFL-era win at Windy Hill from 81 appearances, while the Demons reached 350 VFA/VFL away matches.

Sydney(/South Melbourne)’s 250th home match across the VFA, NEAFL and VFL represented the first time the red and whites had faced Richmond in State league competition for 126 years, and the Swans(/Bloods) extended their unbeaten run against the Tigers to 130 years – the same age as the scoring record they broke.

Frankston’s Will Fordham played his 100th VFL match in what is developing into a fine career at the level, whie Carlton’s Ben Crocker booted his 100th goal in the Blues’ win over Northern Bullants.

And Footscray broke a 122-year-old record with its highest score against Williamstown.

There are more milestones coming this week, with Seagull Teia Miles to play his 100th VFL match in the Bay Derby against arch-rival Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium on Sunday, Geelong to play its 300th away match against Footscray at Victorian University Whitten Oval on Friday hoping to inflict the Bulldogs’ 50th VFL-era defeat, Casey fronting up for its 100th match at a neutral venue against the Swans at the MCG on Saturday and the Bullants hoping to avoid their 550th VFA/VFL away loss against the Brisbane Lions in Queensland on Friday.
