BRISBANE Lions superstar Jonathan Brown says he hasn't yet reached his peak as a player, and hopes that as he improves, he can lead his team to further glory.

Brown was a part of the awesome Lions team of the early 2000s that played in four Grand Finals for three premierships in his first five years, but he says the best – both for himself and for this current pride of Lions – is yet to come.

"To match what we did team-wise is probably a bit extravagant, but I have full confidence that this group will achieve something," he told the Herald Sun.

"That's why I am so excited about the future and I guess more so the present. We can certainly get back into September this year.

"I would hope the next few years will be my best football personally. We had great team success, but in the early days, although I was the centre half-forward, you'd have to say I was a second-stringer."

The 26-year-old plays his 150th AFL game this weekend, but says 200 is the one he'll celebrate.

Brown also said he was driven by the desire to return to September action, after the team had spent time in the wilderness.

"It is exciting. It is a pretty big driving force at the back end of my career. I never thought I'd say it, but as I get a bit older I do appreciate more what we did for a few years."
